Prague has always been on our wish list of cities to visit, so we took the opportunity to go in February. We were not disappointed, it is an amazing city bursting with history, culture and incredible architecture.
After a short 1 hour and 50 minutes flight from Stansted, we arrived in Prague, purchased a great value 3-day travelcard and hopped onto the fast and reliable Metro system for a few stops, before arriving at the Wenceslas Square Hotel. This was a comfortable, older property, and the central location was perfect for exploring this historic and fascinating city.
After checking in at the hotel, we set off to explore Wenceslas Square. It is one of Prague’s most famous meeting points. The square is easily identified by it’s huge horse sculpture depicting Saint Wenceslas, accompanied by four Czech Patron Saints.
Today, the city is fuelled by many shops and restaurants, with very pleasant, chilled vibes. We had a lovely meal, in the Como Restaurant and Cocktail Bar, located in the centre of the city.
The cost of living in Prague is cheaper that in the UK, and the currency is Czech Krona. Bearing in mind this is a capital city, Prague still offers great value for money.
Refreshed after a lovely breakfast, we explored the city on foot and found ourselves at Zizcov Television Tower. From its position on top of a hill in the district of Zizkov, the tower stands high above the City’s traditional skyline. The views from on top of the tower were stunning, with a 360-degree panoramic view of the city. We had lunch in a lovely café in Zizcov, and all the locals were very friendly.
We then walked to the old town area of Prague. It was amazing, with its lovely cobbled stone streets and colourful buildings. The City Hall, which dates to 1338 and houses a historic astronomical clock, dominates the square. Food and drinks then followed, taking us later into the evening.
The following day, we visited Prague Castle, which dominates the city skyline. Perched on a hill and overlooking the city the Castle, which also houses a cathedral, offers stunning views of the city and should not be missed. The views of the city were amazing, the architecture was also very impressive. The romantic Charles Bridge, it is a historical pedestrian bridge that crosses the Vltava river, very busy with tourists. The bridge also had many “accessories” including decorative gates, statues, crucifixes and towers.
In the evening, we took a romantic river cruise, with fantastic food accompanied by fantastic live jazz music. We joined the cruise at Czech Bridge and glided along the Vltava River, taking in all the sites of Prague lit up at night. Simply stunning!!
Overall, we loved Prague. An inspiring, beautiful and historical city that I would certainly recommend for a city break
